GRIT FOR COACHINGHow can we as coaches become more effective in supporting our clients achieve their valued goals?

How can we as coaches inspire our client to try harder, to keep going in spite of obstacles and setbacks?

WHAT IS GRIT?
Grit is a personality trait, defined as “perseverance and passion for long term goals.”(Duckworth, Kelly, Matthews and Peterson,2007).

I have always wondered what makes some people more successful than others. In my studies in Positive Psychology I came across ‘Signature Strengths’ by Dr. Martin Seligman in his book (‘Authentic Happiness, 2002). This strength is about perseverance/industry and diligence. It is also known as grit.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Grit is important because aside from it being the one personal quality shared by leaders in every field, grit is also the quality that distinguishes star performers in their fields so grit is cited as often as talent (Duckworth,2007).

In this mentoring session, we will explore the concept of grit and sharing of insights and experiences. If you would like to know more about grit and how to apply grit to inspire coaching, join me for a conversational and interactive understanding of grit and also find out how gritty you are?
